See ‘Building Approval Time Line’’ sheet

How do I obtain a quote?

Please provide a copy of the proposed plans and associated documentation for your project to Coastal Building Approval Service. Once it has been established the level of service you require, a written itemised quote will be provided for your consideration.

Making an application
How do I lodge my application?
Applications can be lodged electronically or by post or hand delivered between 8am and 4.30pm.

Application checklists are available within the Technical Information heading and these outline what documentation is required for your Building Application. The speed of the building application process is very much determined by the completeness of your application. If you have all the information and documents required then your Building Application will be approved quickly.

If you are lodging many applications each year then we are happy to meet with you and work together to facilitate your documentation and eliminate the scope for unnecessary delays.

You have several options for lodging an application:
Post it to us at PO Box 5503, Mackay MC QLD 4741
Bring it to our office at 65 Victor Avenue, Glenella, between the hours of 8.00am – 4.30pm
Email the application to admin@ccbuildingapproval.com.au
What happens to my application once it is lodged?
1. Lodgement
When your application is lodged at our office or by post or online, our staff immediately pre-assess it to check for commonly required documents or information that may be missing. This check should not be considered a full assessment; the purpose of the ‘preliminary-check’ is to identify any obvious missing information or documents which could delay your approval.
2. Assessment by a Building Certifier
Your application is then assessed by our professional building surveyor’s who ensure that your application is compliant with the Building Code of Australia, Integrated Planning Act and relevant Australian Standards. This is when further information may be requested if there is insufficient information to grant an approval as shown on the process page.
3. Issue of a Building Permit
Once all required documentation is received and the assessment is complete, a Building Permit or Development Decision Notice is issued by the Building Certifier. You are not permitted to begin work, until the permit / approval has been issued. A staff member will then inform the Applicant that the Building Permit is ready for collection or to be posted or emailed out.

Building work is generally required to start within 6 months and to be completed within 12 months from the date of the approval. This time may be extended by making an application to the Building Certifier prior to the expiration time of the permit.
4. Inspections
The building permit will state which inspections the Building Certifier has requested. Once you have reached each stage, you are required to book an inspection, which will be attended by one of our Building Inspectors.

When you are ready to book your inspection please fax your 'Request for Inspection' form, or call our office, or email your booking, before 3.30pm, 24 hours prior to your preferred inspection time.
